MIDWEEK TRIP TO TAUNTON FOR A T20

Preview: Western Storm vs Central Sparks (Charlotte Edwards Cup)

Central Sparks take to the road and travel to Taunton to face the Western Storm in their second game of the Charlotte Edwards Cup in 2024.

Match Details:

Game: Western Storm vs Central Sparks

Competition: Charlotte Edwards Cup

Venue: Cooper Associates County Ground

Start time: 6:30PM

Sparks head into Wednesday’s T20 with the Western Storm off the back of a win in the CEC opener, where they beat the Sunrisers by seven wickets at New Road. An unbeaten (79*) from Davina Perrin and two wickets for both Em Arlott & Hannah Baker was enough to charge the Sparks to victory.

With two warmup T20 matches before Sunday’s clash with the Andy Tennant led Sunrisers, Sparks are on a three-game winning run, hoping to extend it in West Country this week.

Taking 13 wickets in all competitions so far this season, Sparks spinner Baker is proving to be a menace to batting orders, while Abbey Freeborn and Eve Jones will be hoping to guide the side to a good score at the top of the order.

The Opposition:

Western Storm’s start to the season has been mixed, with the side sitting 6th in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy table. They were narrowly beaten in their T20 opener against the South East Stars over the weekend, but with overseas star Amanda-Jade Wellington in the ranks and ever-present captain Sophie Luff, Storm will be hoping to get a win at home under the midweek Somerset lights.

Past Meeting:

You have to go back to May 2022 for the last time Sparks beat Storm in an away Charlotte Edwards Cup fixture. However, in the most recent meeting between the two sides, it was Wednesday’s visitors who came out on top by 7 wickets at the Cooper Associates County Ground, in their penultimate Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy of last season.

Storm’s last victory against Sparks came in Bristol, in this competition last June.

Team News:

There are no injuries in the Sparks side, with a full list of players to choose from. Both squads will be announced before Wednesday’s match.
