SPARKS EARN ENGLAND SELECTIONS

Central Sparks’ Hannah Baker, Georgia Davis, Charis Pavely and Issy Wong have each earned call-ups to England Women’s squads for the upcoming international tour of Ireland.

Baker (20), Davis (25), Pavely (19) & Wong (22) have all been selected for England’s squads ahead of the upcoming series, where Jon Lewis’ side will face Ireland in three ODIs and two T20s. Baker and Wong to be involved in both squads, while Davis has been selected for the ODIs and Pavely for the T20s.

After various stints in England A training camps and appearances for the side whether that be U19, England A or the senior team, the Sparks quartet will soon head to Ireland and aim to shine on the international stage.

Having played in series such as the England A spring tour of New Zealand earlier this year, leg spinner Baker has now been rewarded with a selection in both squads. Having been an ever-present for Sparks and with her experience in The Hundred, at just 20, the Worcestershire-born spinner can arguably be considered an experienced player in the women’s game.

With 71 career wickets to her name for Sparks, Davis will be involved in the ODI fixtures after he maiden senior call-up to the England side. The 25-year-old has recently enjoyed a successful Hundred, reaching the final with Welsh Fire, and so far in 2024 she boasts 20 wickets in all competitions for Sparks – and Davis has played crucial knocks with the bat, most notably against Northern Diamonds at Headingley in an 11-ball T20 thriller.

For all-rounder Pavely, an impressive 2023 campaign has seen her pick her a maiden call up to England’s senior team, having excelled in the U19 tour of Sri Lanka for England in March this year.

Both domestically with the Central Sparks, and in The Hundred for Phoenix; Pavely has broken onto the scene after coming through the Sparks Academy pathway. The 19-year-old took nine wickets in eight matches for Phoenix this year, and the same amount has been collated in her first two senior seasons with Sparks.

Wong first came onto the scene for England in 2021, more recently the seamer was involved in last year’s women’s Ashes series against Australia.

The young talents will relish the opportunity to be a part of England’s series against Ireland, after enjoying solid domestic seasons and with past experiences in an around the England set-up. Baker was first chosen by England’s Academy aged just 16 and played in the 2023 ICC U19 Women’s World Cup – a tournament in which Pavely’s international introduction came.

For Davis and Wong, they went on a tour of India with England A, and a training camp in Oman. A tour in which Wong won player of the series.

England’s journey in Ireland gets underway on Saturday 7 September in Belfast, which will be the first of three ODIs. The games will conclude ten days later with the final T20 in Dublin.
