GRACE POTTS: ‘I think it’s important after the disappointment of Saturday to get back out there.'

Central Sparks bowler Grace Potts was on top form with ball in hand at the weekend against The Blaze in a game which ended in a loss by 59 runs.

Reflecting on the game, she said: “I think it’s important after the disappointment of Saturday to get straight back out there and put in a performance.”

The Sparks were great on the field after losing Saturday’s toss, bowling the Blaze out for 212, and three of those wickets were taken by Potts.

Potts, when asked about her performance said: “I’m obviously disappointed with the loss but it’s always nice personally to take a few wickets which settles you into the season.

“I guess it gives you a bit of confidence at the start of the season which is always good going forward. So, in that sense it felt good to be out there taking wickets.”

The entire bowling unit played well at Trent Bridge, as well as Potts, Emily Arlott and Georgia Davis both got three wickets, while Hannah Baker got herself one.

Potts added: “I think bowling wise we are strong, we know we have a good line up of fast bowlers and some quality spinners, so I think there is confidence in our ability.

“It’s nice to be a part of a group of fast bowlers that all have a lot of experience that I can tap into, and it’s exciting to see where we can go as a group.”

Against the Blaze, there were debuts for both Chloe Brewer and Katie George, and that was something which pleased Potts as she praised the pair.

The bowler said: “I think the new signings have been great. It was nice to hear the cap speeches and see them make their debuts.

“It was nice to bat a bit with KG [Katie George], she definitely settles you at the crease and she also put in a good performance herself.”

In the Sparks’ second game of 2023, and second in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, Potts and her fellow Sparks teammates face the reigning champions, the Northern Diamonds at New Road in Worcester.

Looking ahead to the game, Potts said: “We’re all raring to go again and show what we can do, and it’ll be nice to have a home game and see some fans.

“We are looking forward to building on Saturday and hopefully getting a win on the board.”
