LIBBY THOMAS: I HAVE ENJOYED THE OPPORTUNITY TO UTILISE MY SKILLS

Central Sparks Academy player Libby Thomas has had a strong season so far in 2023 and says she has enjoyed ‘utilizing her skills’.

The academy side, coached by Darren Franklin have played in some good and tight games so far this season, and Thomas has been at the forefront of those fixtures, batting towards the top of the order on more than one occasion.

Thomas is a batter/wicketkeeper who bats with power and placement. The Welsh player has joined the likes of Meg Austin, Emily Churms and Hannah Hardwick who have impressed in the academy squad this season, and Thomas’ form in the middle block of the campaign has been second to none.

Recently, the youngster played for Wales at county level at the home of Glamorgan, Sophia Gardens and hit a century. On that achievement, she said: “Honestly, hitting 100 at Sophia Gardens felt amazing. I can say it was one of the best feelings and I enjoyed playing in such a large stadium that has great history behind it.”

Becoming an unforgettable experience, Thomas adds that to the list of impressive feats she’s reached in 2023. On the season, she added: “Overall, I have found this season very successful and insightful.

“I have enjoyed utilising my skills and showing the best side of my cricket and the potential ability that I show with the bat and gloves.

“I have loved the opportunity to not only show my skills within the academy, but having been given a chance to play within the Sparks XI has been great so I can keep improving my skills.

“The 2023 campaign has been enjoyable, the competitiveness and high standard of play throughout the season has definitely helped me improve my game, I’m always wanting to strive to reach that next level.”

Recently, Thomas and her teammates played at Millfield school in the regional academy festival, Sparks fell short in the finals stage, but it was a great learning experience for the Welsh batter.

Thomas said: “I thought the academy festival was a very good experience, not only for the team to spend time together, but to also show what we could do in a group table point of view.”

With an eye on finishing the 2023 season strongly and looking forwards, Thomas added:

“By the end of 2023, I hope to keep pushing towards the first team by getting more runs, for not only the academy but the Sparks XI as well.”
