VACANCY: ASSISTANT COACH



Central Sparks are looking to appoint an Assistant Coach for the 2023 summer season to join the established coaching team for the region.


The successful candidate will be a key members of the coaching team, assisting the planning and implementation of the training and competition program for the Central Sparks squad.


We are seeking an individual with a passion for working with people and talent development who can add value to multiple environments and have a positive impact on those around them. The ability to influence, communicate effectively, and work independently and as part of a team are priorities for the role. Reporting into the Head Coach, the candidate will aid the transition of players from the Academy and influence coaching across the pathways in the region. There will be a need to have a flexible approach to working patterns, including domestic travel during the season with possible overseas training camps in winter.



This role will suit those with an interest in creating and supporting positive learning environments and with the expertise in coaching young players with high potential to ensure young players can thrive; the ability to influence, communicate effectively, and work independently and as part of a team with a passion for continuous learning are priorities for the role. We are looking for someone who holds a minimum of ECB Level 3 qualification (or international equivalent), with comprehensive coaching experience, and an ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider coaching team.



Key Responsibilities


  • Assist the Head Coach with preparing, developing, and supporting the needs of the professional squad, during winter and summer attending every fixture and training session

  • Coach and develop players across the Sparks and Academy squads and support EPP and CAG delivery where appropriate

  • Support coaching on Sparks 2nd XI fixtures

  • Input into the management of Individual Development Plan submissions and communication

  • Close working with the Performance Analyst to help produce data and footage relevant to support high performance and player development.

  • Attend meetings where required

  • Liaise with the Head Coach, Senior Regional Talent Manager, medical department, and rest of the coaching team on performance of individual players and their suitability for relevant selections.

  • Understand, and be able to communicate, the talent identification and recruitment strategy for the Region which aims to ensure programs are accessible, broadens the player pool and drives diversity and inclusion.

  • Keep up to date with best practice and expertise across the fields of talent development and attend ECB CPD events and meetings to support the drive for a world leading player pathway.

  • To take on any other responsibilities or tasks that are within your skills and abilities whenever reasonably asked

Essential Requirements


  • Qualified to at least ECB Level 3 (or international equivalent) or currently undertaking the Level 3 qualification.

  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and Safeguarding Children certification - a DBS disclosure is an impartial and confidential document that details an individual’s criminal record and where appropriate gives details of those who are barred from working with children.

  • Coaching experience within a county pathway (or international equivalent) or professional team

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.

  • Experience of developing IDPs

  • High levels of energy and enthusiasm

  • The ability to use initiative working as part of a team or independently as required.
